Woah. From iPhone 7 demos to national radio. BATSHIT CRAZY did that! Ecstatic is an understatement; my comeback year is proving to be a pivotal moment for me in the music game, and it feels like my name is finally getting in the right rooms – not as a model, or an activist- but for my music and the raps that I WRITE.
Last month BBC Introducing hosted an emerging artist information and networking event at Maida Vale studios. Of course, being a local, there was no way I was about to miss this!
The event was as exciting as I thought it would be; I met some really cool artists from different genres but I knew that I sort of stood out being one of the only rappers present. During a Q&A with BBC’s Alyx Holcombe I decided to ask about my song, BATSHIT CRAZY (LONDON) as I wanted to know how best to censor songs that contain swearing (as you can imagine, BATSHIT CRAZY isn’t the cleanest). After rapping a few bars from the hook, I got some valuable feedback from the panel and artist guests alike. So when I went for my feedback slot, the most I was expecting was a “great song, bro” but it turned out to be one of the single biggest moments of my music journey so far.

I was paired with Kayah from 1xtra, and after about 90 seconds of hearing my song, she took off her headphones and told me that BATSHIT CRAZY (LONDON) was coming to radio. Wow. Just like that. I couldn’t believe it. I had submitted about 4 or 5 songs over the years (BATSHIT CRAZY included) but without luck. I think that speaks to how much of a difference a 30 second in-person introduction can do in personifying the human behind the artist. We spoke about how my aesthetic doesn’t necessarily match up to my sound, but she told me that I should use it as my strength. That in itself gave me a new confidence to exist authentically; my identity is highly fragmented, and I was worried that it may come across as jarring. But now, I think I’ve found the balance with an image that captures the vibe of ‘ghetto couture’.
It’s been a few years coming, but we finally made it! BATSHIT CRAZY is a nationally broadcast song, and Alexandru Bleu is a radio-ready rapper. Thank you to the BBC Introducing and BBC 1xtra teams for taking a shot with me!
This is insane!
My next single drops on w/c 24th November. Stay tuned for updates!
